Cross type connector performance

Dears, in the laboratory there is often the practice to connect together mechanically compatible connectors, as for example 1.8 (V) with 2.4mm connectors, or 2.92 (K) with SMA etc.
Beside the frequency limitation introduced by the narrowest bandwidth connector, do there is any other issue related to the dielectric diameter mismatch?
Do you have to suggest any study which measures the performances of such kind of connections?

Thanks a lot.

In general, SMA connectors mate with 3.5mm and 2.92mm, but you should avoid doing this. SMAs are a commodity item and often cost just a few dollars; consequently they are not made to exacting standards like the precision connectors. You can avoid ruining expensive hardware and cables if you make sure to keep SMAs out of your RF lab. If you have to connect an SMA product to something you care about, you should invest in a connector gauge to verify those cheap connectors before you use them:

other than that, I don't see a problem mating 2.92 to 3.5, 2.4 to 1.85.... etc.

Good luck!

Hi Steve,
thanks a lot for your help.
I agree with you, if possible getting rid of the SMA would be the best, but you find them all around the lab (also just to connect some low speed trigger).
The plan now is to buy plenty of SMA to 3.5 or 2.92mm and let's hope for the best :D

Thanks again,
Sergio
